Dear All,
Here are some interesting questions/answers that you might find helpful regarding this problem:
1. How long have you been facing the problem?
Since I bought the Dell (received in December 2020), I must have encountered this problem from time to time, once every 2 weeks or so. There is no real model. and I can't find myself the trigger or the root cause.
2. Have you made any recent hardware/software changes to the system?
No major software changes. I've only done the following: Ubuntu LTS 20.04 updates, BIOS updates, deleting system snaps (because they're a pain).
And, no hardware changes at all. The only fancy thing I use is a DA300 mobile adapter. But, according to my message: he was not online at the time.
3. Did you notice any updates before this issue happened?
Not that I remember. I keep this question in mind, just in case.
4. Are you facing problem with USB mouse and touchpad working properly?
I haven't connected anything via USB, so I can't talk about the USB mouse. the apparent problem was with the touchpad. For me, it's the very first symptom that tells me "
this problem recurs, do not try to do anything other than try to stop
". As in my original post, the mouse is only a symptom: nothing responds even the Ctrl-Alt-F1 console.

5. Just to confirm, the images you sent with the logs, is this the screen you get after entering your login ID and password?
Good question: but the answer is no.
< p>When the problem occurs, I'm on my desktop (connected just fine) but nothing responds except "a bit" of keyboard. so there is nothing to show. So no picture of that.The images in my post, are of my step 3 when nothing works, i.e. when I use the keyboard to go to the console Ctrl+Alt+F1.
< p>Note: I wrote "a bit of" keyboard, because you can see on the images that the system says "Connection timed out after 60 seconds". It's 60 seconds AFTER I typed my password correctly. Therefore, I suspect that the system is flooded with logs that slow it down and prevent it from entering my password correctly.The systemd logs I posted are from my second boot. I explain:
On my first boot, I encounter the problem. I am using SysReq combination to force reboot.
On second boot, everything seems to be fine, but I want to have a full boot cycle, so I reboot normally (from the menu using the touchpad which now works).
On the third boot, everything seems to be fine (again), that's when I get the systemd logs:
to get the logs of the first boot, I enter in a terminal:
$ journalctl -b -2
to retrieve the logs of the second boot, I enter a terminal:
$ journalctl -b -1
I hope this can help someone?
Cheers
