When I first bought the camera the maximum I would have given was 3.5 or 4 stars. However, with the latest camera firmware updates, this is a powerful hybrid video/photo camera. For work, we do a fair amount of portrait photography as well as video production. This camera does not disappoint when it comes to still photos. Plus, 4K and UHD video quality is fantastic even with the “sub-par” h.265 codec. We use this camera with our Panasonic GH4.PROS: Excellent still image quality with 28 megapixels. I'm not a pixel watcher and wish this camera was closer to 20MP so we could get better low-light performance. Crisp/sharp images in decent lighting with nice bokeh using an S-series lens. 4K and UHD video is fantastic, very comparable to Panasonic GH4. Video autofocus is faster than the GH4 in decent light and also tracks subjects better. With the latest firmware update (v1.22 at the time of writing this review) makes autofocus and exposure in video a breeze (especially in shutter priority with the shutter set to 1 /60 when shooting at 30p), I love it! The 265 codec is a bugger and it's not much fun to transcode to h.264. The best software I've found for transcoding is DVDFab 9 (with the icon of the little monkey wearing a crown); you get the best image quality from this software. Then you can import your footage into Premiere Pro or any other NLE you use. I wish Samsung had provided their own NLE like Sony does with Vegas. Where Samsung did some false advertising was in low-light performance. This camera has fair/good image quality in low light, but stinks when autofocusing; even with the back-illuminated sensor. But that makes sense, since it's a 28 MP camera; the photocells are not large enough to attract enough light like the Sony A7s (a 12MP camera with large photocells). sensor size can capture more light and provide better autofocus in low light. The h.265 codec is neat and supposed to save space, but you end up using more disk space after transcoding all your files to h.264. I don't know if the firmware would allow you to switch between h.265 and h.264, but that would be a good option. This camera blows my Canon 5D mark III out of the water for video, and I turn to it more, even for photos. The ability to export stills from 4K video is great. I hope this will help you!
