UPDATE 04/11:
New rumors about the upcoming Sony A9 camera (possibly called Sony A9S) have surfaced. Apparently, the final price has not yet been officially set by Sony. However, he would be looking at a price around $4,999. This is a slightly more conservative figure than the previously advertised $5999, but it's still a good amount of money.
We also heard, via Sony Alpha Rumors, that this upcoming Sony camera
< p>could be announcedon January 11 during the CES virtual trade show. However, it was also mentioned that the second wave of COVID-19 could potentially push back the announcement. Either way, leaks are plentiful and fast for the Sony A9S, so we wouldn't be surprised to see more information leaking soon...
ORIGINAL STORY:
This new camera would be the Sony A9S – part of the flagship A9 range, but not a direct successor to the current A9 products. This Sony A9S will feature a sensor in the 50MP range to enable its 8K 30p capture, which is intended to outperform the
Canon EOS-R5
without recording limits, and features AF and other technology from the
Sony A7S III
. The manufacturer wants to release it early next year in time for the Olympics, where it will be used by the pros alongside the
Sony A9II
for the pictures.

Sony Alpha Rumors describes the video as a "baby" 8K mode and that "there will be limitations in the quality you can record internally", suggesting it may have fewer bitrate options and RAW than the 8K offered by the EOS R5.
ORIGINAL STORY (Sep 24): Do you have a big bag of salt in your kitchen? Well, go ahead and take a big pinch, because here's a wild rumor for you: Sony might be set to release a new 8K camera early next year for $5,999.
In what could be positioned as a
Canon EOS-R5
killer, the Sony 8K case will be a "new high-end camera" with a large pro form factor, never-before-seen sensor and some of the new benchmarks of the
Sony A7S III
, such as the 9.4 million-dot electronic viewfinder and improved menu system.

The reports make no mention of the supposed size of the sensor, although like the R5 it will need to be in the region of 45MP in order to pack enough pixels for 8K capture. So it'll obviously far eclipse the video-oriented A7S III's 12.1MP, but it'll likely be clocked at a lower resolution than the 61MP.
Sony A7R IV
.
>Although some have taken to calling this 8K monster the Sony A9 III, we don't think that's the right fit. People have probably taken the description 'high-end camera' to mean 'flagship camera', but the specs just don't stack up.
After all, the A9 is Sony's flagship line of professional sports and newsgathering cameras - its USP features super-fast burst shooting and killer autofocus, not capturing obscene images in high resolution (which is actually counterproductive for sports and news professionals). Without forgetting that the
Sony A9II
only came out last year!
Is Sony already shooting for the Canon EOS R5 with its own 8K camera? ?

Instead, we see it fits in a similar category to the Canon EOS R5: a powerful mirrorless camera that can be used for advanced 8K videography as well as high-res photography. And if it can record 8K without overheating, that's a huge advantage over the R5.
An equally huge advantage will be that Sony will undoubtedly use its pixel-shift technology to quadruple the resolution, just as the A7R IV's 61MP sensor could produce 240MP images. So if we assume the new camera has the same 45MP resolution as the R5, Sony's smart technology could potentially produce 180MP photos.
Of course, this is speculation on top of speculation; those wild specs,
leaks by Photo Rumors
, could be completely wrong. However, they are quite exciting:
• Larger, truly pro body • 9.44M-dot EVF • Newly developed sensor • 8K video recording without overheating • Dual card slots • New menu systems from A7S III • IBIS with active Steady Shot mode • Everything about this camera is new• Price $5999
Does Canon's breakthrough camera have to start looking over its shoulder already, or is this rumor too good to be true?
