I will write a more in-depth review here, but wanted to leave my first impressions for the first 10 minutes of using the camera. none of this has to do with the photography/images in this original review.1. bought this from the used department of the amazon warehouse and upon receiving it i checked the number of shutters and it was 5! it's basically a whole new camera. ZERO scratches on the body. absolutely pristine.2. the firmware update from 2.00 to 3.01 went smoothly and Sony's Windows10 utility was flawless. much better than canon's archaic process (which is easy but just archaic - no installer)3. SOLID feeling. my hands are not huge. but after a lot of complaints i read that it was a bit too small, i think for big male hands it might be. only my little finger on the right hand grips halfway but I use it to cradle the bottom and the left hand cradle the lens. I have no complaints here. I found the previous camera (canon 5dm3) to be big and chunky and causing fatigue, but so far this camera is much lighter and I think it will be easier on my wrist fatigue . I would say the size here is very similar to the canon SL1 SL2 SL3 mini DSLR series. Here, very compact and suitable for travel.4. LOVE the button customization here. REALLY REALLY helpful. The latest cumulative firmware update 3.01 enables more button customization features. I still have to sit down and customize everything...it usually takes a good month for me, so I'll fully update this review after a good shooting session.5. my refurbished version comes with NO battery - I am able to purchase the NP-FZ100 RAVPower [Upgrade] found in 3rd party Sony batteries from Amazon on latest Sony camera firmware 3.01. I'm very happy because they are better value for money and Sony doesn't fuss with it in their firmware. Canon LOCKS you to canon batteries and chips so third party batteries will not register or work well with updated firmware. I understand the reasons why Canon would do this (ensuring the camera works properly and preventing electronics from breaking), but for me, I'd rather the company leave it up to the customer to take that risk. Camera makers just need to record the fact that third party batteries were used on the body in the NV flash (regarding warranty discussions). 6. The articulating LCD display is really boring... just articulating up and down and partially down. why bother? Sony really needed to copy canon here with a FULL articulating LCD screen. but it's better than nothing....7. The LCD touch screen is paralyzed. Sony firmware crippled the touchscreen interface. You cannot touch the screen to save the entry. there are limited screens where your fingers can pick up the change. the rest is based on dial/OK. Why? Sony should copy canon/nikon.8 again. The menu system is more or less very similar to Canon's but simply poorly organized. I want companies to adapt the UI for the touchscreen interface rather than continuing with the same UX design and just adding a touchscreen here and there. Honestly, I think canon has improved on this recently (especially with the "Q" setting), but the industry needs to take a step back and advance the UX for the touchscreen.9. I wear glasses. the VF so far is correct. The diopter adjustment is excellent. I think as a small tweak I would buy a larger cup (third eyecup about $20 here on amazon) to get a little more LCD and nose separation as well as seal in the lighting a bit more but nothing to complain about because that's all for now..... I'll report back after a month or two of filming.
