It looks like Sony has now officially ditched mirrorless cameras
Sony A6300
and
A6500
APS-C. The two boxes have disappeared from the
Sony List of Interchangeable Lens APS-C E Mount Cameras
, and
both boxes
are also being listed as
discontinued on B&H website
.
According to one
new rumor
, it looks like Sony is gearing up to release a new APS-C camera, which looks like it could replace the two discontinued cameras as well as the A6600, offering a similar form factor but with "vlogger" features of the Sony ZV-1 and Sony A7c.
sony
released the A6300 in February 2016
and it immediately became a fan favorite. It raised the bar not only for APS-C mirrorless cameras, but also for all interchangeable lens cameras with an APS-C sensor. Except there was a problem - at least for video shooters. He overheated like crazy. A firmware has been released
later in the year
to fix it, but it really wasn't.
In October, Sony had
announced the A6500
, which everyone saw as the successor to a short-lived A6300 to fix those overheating issues. And in
all the tests we've seen
, the A6500 actually solved the problem. There were a number of other improvements as well, including IBIS, a touchscreen LCD and a larger buffer for continuous shooting, but other than that they were largely the same.
But Sony continued to sell both models. After all, the battery life of the A6500 wasn't as good as the A6300 and not everyone needs IBIS or cares about a touchscreen user interface. .
Now, however, both have been removed from Sony's website. , and they are listed at various retailers as discontinued. The B&H links above mention that both cameras have been discontinued and no longer appear in
search results on WEX
UK.
As for what the new camera will bring, Sony Alpha Rumors says it won't be an A6300 or A6500 replacement, but an A6600 replacement. They also say it will be announced later in May and will offer the same general form factor, but with some of the improvements made by the ZV-1 and A7c to make it more vlogger friendly. This is what they list as "confirmed".
As for the latest rumours… It won't be called the A6700. Another source bolstered the announcement date to late May, suggesting two weeks from now, and another source who claims to have seen the camera told them it was "definitely some kind of device." photo Sony A7c”.
Rumored but unconfirmed spec rumors suggest a 32-megapixel sensor, 4K 60p 10-bit video, fully articulating LCD (if they had it in the A6500, I would have bought it from Sony in 2016), a 17ms 12-bit readout, identical form factor to the A7c, and better LCD and EVF (better than what, I don't know, but better - probably better than the A66000).
We'll let you know as soon as we hear more, but it sounds like Sony is finally releasing the camera they should have released at the same time Panasonic announced the GH5.
