I'm a beginner but quickly realized that this camera is crippled in such a way that if Amazon details this information here in the product details (which they must) may change your purchase decision. First of all, this camera can't shoot more than 29min 59secs (less than half an hour in one shot) that too if you're really lucky! For those who think 20 minutes on a single video file their are enough, then you should also be aware that if you don't let it cool down for at least 30 minutes... subsequent runs will give you less and less video shooting time as it will heat up much faster and more frequently. In my case, the 2nd attempt after 15 minutes of 1st part recording with a 10 minute cool down period, experienced a heat warning at around 5 minutes! and a stop about 8 minutes away! which is really mediocre and makes this camera a joke in terms of shooting video. In general scenarios, my a5100 usually runs for about 10 minutes in video mode before getting a temperature warning, and usually shuts down completely after 16-20 minutes - depending on its mood! (yes mood, not mode!) I say mood because, there is no fixed amount of time it can record properly, sometimes it stops at 6-7 minutes, sometimes at 15 minutes. Which makes it even more difficult to use for video, so much so that it can also be called useless imo and that's when it doesn't shoot any fancy format or resolution, just a simple full hd 1080p (default settings), performance remains poor. ..). Also, Amazon didn't mention this limitation anywhere, nor did any of the reviewers point it out. So there are 2 problems with this product. 1) Sony's built-in video capture time limit per clip and 2) Amazon's description should state the same. However, this can be corrected by Amazon, so unsuspecting buyers like me don't buy a product that doesn't meet their needs. For photos, it's a good camera. The sad part is, in my case I did not find this defect, which was integrated by Sony and was never communicated by amazon in the product details, went unnoticed because I did not use the camera longer during the course of the first 10 days following delivery. Some things were on the way, the lens etc, so I didn't feel the need to use it for long with the kit lens. I tried everything just to make sure it worked or not and never set it to record more than 2 minutes until it was too late to come back (the comeback window was also shorter - 10 days in this case). :( So far Amazon has declined the return request and suggested I contact Sony support. My 2 cents. Don't completely rely on the information provided by amazon, just make your purchase after doing some research appropriate using information available outside of amazon as well... Hope this helps you make a wiser decision.
