I started out as an amateur travel photographer in need of something compact with great functionality. Which, don't get me wrong, it takes great pictures, I've shot weddings, landscapes, portraits, macros, street photography with great success. At the time, I had no mentor in the field, if I had known then what I know now, I would not have invested the amount of money that I made in this system. Buying an interchangeable lens camera is an investment. Whether you plan to make it a career or just for fun. I say this because each lens will give different results, you start out as a street photographer, but soon after you might want to expand your creativity. Lenses don't come cheap. Some are overpriced like most samsung lenses. The only lens worth mentioning is the movie pro 50-150mm S lens, which at $1300 better be good. Unfortunately, the good ended there, after all the praise for this camera had settled down. Samsung made the unexpected decision to start exiting the camera market since the launch of the NX500, they only released one other version, the NX3300. Which is practically its cuter little brother, but the fun stops there. I say this because, again, Samsung has no intention of investing money in better lenses for its camera bodies. Samsung's website doesn't even have a dedicated camera link. Their focus now is cell phones and improving the cameras they are equipped with. The last update I read called out Samsung for pulling its camera division from Australia and a few other countries. With all that said, here are the necessary pros and cons for any level photographer. Pros: Heavy and sturdy build (survived a wave on the beach, body at least survived) Lenses are quiet Touchscreen is very responsive. handyGreat for action shotsI'm not a fan of filters but they're nice if you want to post something quicklyVideo quality is great....with the $1300 CONS lens-AMOLED screen is practically black at daylight. Even at its brightest, I have to put my hand on it and squint. - Availability of quality lenses - Samsung does not keep up with firmware or app updates. There has been 1 firmware update since 2014 and an app date only because customers were furious just like me that new app updates were not working with the phone software making the useless apps. The apps themselves seem archaic and are slow and buggy and I need to have 2-3 apps installed to make one work. I don't even know that I gave up on this feature. TO BE THE ABSOLUTE BIGGEST FLAW A CAMERA COMPANY COULD EVER HAVE FOR A CAMERA OF THIS GRADE... NO AUDIO INPUT JACK! NO USB AUDIO INPUT! NO EXTERNAL FOOTWEAR MIC ON THE MARKET IS COMPATIBLE! The only mic that works with this camera is the built-in one that sits on top, you know that place you breathe in when filming. The audio quality of the microphone is not at all excellent. So if you are planning to shoot video DO NOT BUY THIS CAM as you will need to record the audio on a different device than adding it in post production. HAVE FUN WITH IT. ALSO I bought this same pack in 2015 for $700 ON AMAZON LOL, the body alone is now worth maybe 300.....I'm confused at the audacious price listed here. Bottom line, don't waste your money NOT EVEN IF YOU GIVE IT TO SOMEONE YOU HATE. Stick to the big 3, NIKON, CANNON, and now Sony which is on the rise and they are fully invested in their products, i.e. the sony AS7....
