Finding the service tag number in Dell laptops is the basic task to get warranty or service. The same goes for other brands. Dell's Service Tag Number, or Serial Number, is the method of uniquely identifying a laptop, notebook, or other device. You can always find the Dell service tag or serial number by visiting the OEM's website. But the method they show involves downloading and installing lots of programs. There is no doubt, the programs are lightweight, but why install a separate application, when you can get the serial number without them.
You can have Dell laptop serial number, without downloading any Dell tag checker service. You just need to type a command and get the serial number right in front of you. Windows+R
', type '
cmd
' and press the Enter key.
Just type '
wmic bios get serial number
' and press the Enter key. Your laptop's service tag will now be in front of you.

Find Dell Service Tag or Serial Number on Linux
Most users run Linux on their Dell laptop. It is still not a difficult task to find the service tag number for Dell and other Linux laptops. You may need superuser or administrator privileges for this command.
Open '
Terminal
' and type '
sudo dmidecode -s system-serial-number
', and press the Enter key. You may be prompted to enter your password. Once you are done, you will be shown the Dell Service Tag number.
After finding the Dell service tag number, you can give it to the customer service representative or view the system specifications, as well as your warranty.
