UPDATE:
More detailed specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 have now emerged, although the
Additional Information
should be taken with a pinch of salt. The original story continues below.
###
The next generation of Samsung foldable smartphones won't stop leaking. Today, a few days after tons of
press reports
appeared online, a new
report
details some of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 specs.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 cameras: five sensors in total
The Samsung
Galaxy Z Fold 3
is equipped with five cameras in total. Three of them are inside a redesigned vertical camera module placed on the back, another is above the cover screen and one is placed below the foldable main screen.
The three rear cameras offer 12-megapixel resolutions. , according to published information. One of them would be a Sony IMX555 sensor which acts as the main camera and supports dual-phase detection autofocus. The second is apparently paired with a 2x telephoto lens and the third shooter acts as an ultra-wide-angle camera.
Selfie cameras are just as important these days and
Samsung
is well aware of it. The sensor above the cover screen would offer a resolution of 10 megapixels and the camera under the screen is a 16 megapixel sensor.
Where do these Galaxy Z Fold3 cameras come from? Well, Samsung used the same 12-megapixel ultra-wide and main shooters on the
Galaxy S21
. The Galaxy S21 also featured a 10-megapixel selfie sensor, which uses the same Sony IMX374 sensor above the Fold 3's cover display.
The 12-megapixel telephoto lens and 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 under-display camera seem to be new for Samsung. But that's a bit out of place as it should be one of the
best camera phones of 2021
never mind.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 chipset and storage p>
Of course, the cameras aren't the only important feature. You can't have a flagship smartphone with a flagship-level chipset and today's report corroborates countless other Galaxy Z Fold 3 reports.
Samsung is set to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset in all regions, which means it won't be an Exynos version of its upcoming foldable. It's no surprise, but it crushes rumors about the Snapdragon 888+. Coupled with the flagship-level chipset, there's reportedly up to 512GB of storage, which suggests there will also be a more affordable 256GB version. There's no word on the RAM count, but 12 GB should be the minimum.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 announcement and release date
Samsung recently confirmed that it will be hosting an Unpacked event later this summer and recent rumors have it happening on August 3. Today's report suggests something different.
The Unpacked event is now scheduled for the "second week of August". Coincidentally, this matches the recently leaked press renders
Galaxy Z Flip 3
, which show August 11 as the date. The good news is that even though Unpacked is delayed, it shouldn't push back the release date. Sharing information today points to a late August Galaxy Z Fold 3 release date for the US and UK. This timeline lines up with earlier reports of a Friday, August 27 release. Based on past leaks, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected. at retail price of approximately $1600 in the United States at launch.
