Check the function of the AC adapter
To ensure that the Dell battery is charged properly, the AC adapter must be working properly. Verify that the laptop can recognize the AC adapter.
Remark:
Dell recommends using the original AC adapter that came with the laptop.
Remark:
Make sure that the AC adapter connected to the computer meets the minimum power required by the computer to charge the battery. Many high-end computers require higher capacity AC adapters, such as 150W, 180W, and 210W AC adapters.
Remark:
Dell laptops or other docking stations that are connected to the E-port series must use the AC adapter supplied with the docking station. These power adapters have a higher capacity, depending on the additional power requirements of the docking station.
To verify that the laptop correctly recognizes the power adapter, follow these steps:
Restart the computer.
When the Dell logo appears, press the key repeatedly
F2
until Entering Configuration is displayed.
Check the
Power adapter type
(power adapter type) in the BIOS options.
If the AC adapter type is
No
— Please check that the AC adapter is connected to the laptop and to the wall outlet.
If the AC adapter type is
Unknown
— please refer to the Dell Knowledge Base article
How to fix the AC adapter on a Dell laptop Solve the problem
.
If the power adapter type is correctly identified, please proceed to the next step.
Charge the battery in BIOS mode or turn off the laptop
The operating system has various settings (such as power management settings, device drivers) that can affect battery performance. Charging the laptop battery without entering the operating system (when the laptop is off) helps isolate hardware-related issues.
Turn off the computer.
Try one of the following combinations:
When the laptop is off, charge the battery for a while.
You can also restart the laptop and repeatedly press
F2
to access BIOS or system settings. Let the battery charge.
Check if the battery charge percentage has increased.
Restart the computer and go to the next step.
Run the Dell Hardware Diagnostic Test
Run the hardware diagnostic test to help identify the problem and provide troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue. Dell provides built-in and online diagnostics. It is important to run hardware tests on a laptop or battery to determine which device is causing the problem.
To use Dell SupportAssist to run an online hardware battery test, go to
Battery diagnostics
.
Remark:
To run an online hardware diagnostic test on a laptop, you need to download and install the Dell SupportAssist application.
To run the Dell Pre-Boot System Assessment test, follow these steps:
Turn on the computer.
When the Dell logo screen appears, press the key repeatedly
F12
until it appears
Single Boot Menu p>
Single start menu
p>.
Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select

and
verification code
and contact

Check battery working status
Check the health of the battery to determine if the battery is working properly or if it needs to be replaced. Battery health can be checked inside and outside the operating system. Please refer to Dell Knowledge Base article
How to Check Dell Laptop Battery Health
.
Remark:
Battery life generally depends on the number of charge and discharge cycles. This is also caused by consumable battery components.
Battery capacity refers to how long the laptop can run after the battery is fully charged. It is normal for all types of batteries to lose capacity and life over time. Each time the battery is charged or discharged, the battery loses a small amount of its capacity. This behavior is considered a normal characteristic of rechargeable batteries and is not covered by warranty.
