One of the major competitors in the computer industry is Dell vs. HP vs. Lenovo. Although others may also participate, together they have over 50% market share.
All of them make major computer series such as XPS, Inspiron, Thinkpad, Alienware, Omen and so on and if you notice each of the series caters to different audiences, and the thing is you can't determine just one brand is the best, but you can almost tell which is the best in a particular segment.
In 2019, Dell, HP, and Lenovo together hold approximately 63% of the personal computer vendor market share. This includes desktops, laptops, and netbooks.
The list is dominated by Lenovo with
24.1%
market share, followed by
HP
with 22.2% and
Dell
with 16.8%. This in itself shows that they are the elite of laptop manufacturers in the sector.

We'll take a look at which of the four is the best in these categories.
laptops for the home
Dell Laptop
The three budget brands we need to consider are Dell's Vostro and Inspiron, HP's Essential Personal and Pavilion, and Lenovo's Ideapad.
Design
All three laptops have great design philosophies that have evolved over time and look great. We felt that the Pavilion has improved a lot with the increase in prices. All laptops are assets in our book and we think the love here is more of a personal choice and everyone wins.
Price
After browsing through a multitude of laptops, we found that Dell laptops pack the latest technology for a cheaper price. We found that Dell packs the latest technology (10th generation processors) at lower prices than its competitors. While the price difference isn't huge (about a thousand or two), we still think it's great coming from Dell.
Dell has been in this business for a long time and they have found great ways to mass produce it cheaper and that should be the reason why they can afford to sell at a lower price.
To build
Nothing beats the IdeaPads in this category, they're tough machines and can take a drop or two. The build quality of Dell or HP laptops isn't too bad either. But in comparison, Lenovo wins this round.
Overall, we think the winners of this round are Dell's Vostro and Inspiron laptops. They've been around a long time, and they've perfected the art of building great laptops on a budget.
That's not to say the others are bad, some models from Lenovo and HP outperform the Dell ones. Always keep an eye out for the model in question.
desktop laptops
HP Laptop
Desktop laptops include Lenovo's ThinkPad, Dell's XPS, and HP's Pavilion or Spectre. These are expensive laptops and the higher you go the better they get.
Design
Here, there's no one to rival the Specter and Envy laptops. They look fabulous from every corner and are perfectly made. Laptops look great from any angle and are also easy to type on. They come in all sizes and are easy to use and extremely lightweight which is a delight.
Price
All or most desktop laptops are expensive and here too we feel Dell is the winner. They offer great laptops at a great price. Dell XPS laptops are relatively cheaper in this category as well. The Envy's specs are too low for the price they give laptops, but that has more to do with the design of the laptop.
To get the best bang for your buck, laptops get an XPS for desktop use.
To build
All laptops in this category are ruggedly built laptops, and because of their price point, it's meant to be. No clear winner emerged for build quality and we think they all have excellent builds.
Overall, the winners in this category are undoubtedly HP with their Specter and Envy laptops.
Gaming Laptops
Lenovo laptop
This is one of our favorite sections. Gaming Laptops. Dell manufactures its gaming rigs as Alienware, a name every gamer must have heard of, Lenovo with its Legion series, and HP with its new addition Omen.
All three companies have added laptops with RTX graphics cards to their portfolio and RTX laptops as we know are in high demand today. Ray tracing is the technology by which the path of light is traced as it goes and results in stunning visuals.
Design
We're not particularly big fans of the Legion design. But HP Omen? Great design. But nothing comes close to Alienware. A name synonymous with gaming. They build one of the best gaming laptops ever with the Alienware. They look absolutely stunning. Excellent cooling capabilities and excellent craftsmanship.
Price
Gaming laptops are usually expensive devices. But HP proved here that you don't have to shell out big bucks to get great gaming machines. The Omen series of laptops are great machines that offer great value for money. Legion also offers great value laptops.
Alienware has gone the other way here. None of their laptops can be called good value for money. But the extra cash can be seen on the build quality of the device.
Build
Alienware is the clear winner here. Laptops are perfect and exude perfection. Laptop hinges are extremely strong and they feel expensive.
All in all, to get value for money, get a Lenovo or HP laptop. But if price isn't an issue, go for an Alienware with your eyes closed. Here I would strongly suggest the HP Omen series for their value for money. They've made so many gaming laptops so cheap that more have to follow.
Asus is a great alternative here supplying a slew of laptops with RTX 30 series graphics cards at
very good prices.
.
Support
Another thing you need to keep in mind is post-purchase support. Dell offers excellent support, especially if we choose premium plus service plans. We think Dell is the winner here, but HP and Lenovo support aren't bad either.
All three have a transport bracket, which means you have to transport the laptop to the store to get it repaired. Dell, on the other hand, has support where the technician comes to your location to fix the laptop. This of course has a high cost, but since they are fixing the laptop in front of you, they are very careful and it is something that is needed in today's world.
Overall, be sure to check out the laptop you are buying rather than the brand.
Verdict
Overall I prefer Dell. They have been selling in India for a long time and have partnered with other top brands to provide service for their laptops even in rural areas. This is especially true for Dell's high-end laptops.
Dell also offers excellent build quality. They are sturdier and can take a hit or two. My Alienware laptop has seen its share of knocks, bumps and drops and I can assure you that it is durable. My first Lenovo laptop, after getting some results, decided it wasn't worth working for me, so it's gathering dust in a corner.
Dell laptops are also easily customizable. This is also true for Lenovo and HP, so I would say the points are equal for everyone. Changing a RAM or hard drive these days is just a matter of removing a few screws.
HP is improving these days, especially with the Omen series. Gaming laptops are less expensive and also have excellent build quality.
Overall, if you had to choose between these three, I would recommend a Dell or HP laptop. After-sales service for Lenovo laptops is also slightly lower than what Dell or HP offer.
