If you've ever shot with the a9, you already know there's no equal for capturing the action. The a9II is a grown-up, more mature version of the a9 with a ton of extra features to entice even those who already own the a9 to want to upgrade. 1. the sensation is awesome... finally! Sony listened to those of us who shoot sports and pajamas. we wanted a bigger camera and Sony delivered a camera the same size as the a9 but with more beef in the grip, buttons and with better weather sealing. 2. Anti-flicker is finally coming to the a9II! For those of us who shoot in less desirable places that are dark, dull and riddled with flickering lights, all you have to do is activate anti-flicker and the a9II will automatically detect when it needs it and do it. Simplicity is good! 3. I like the a9 for everything except shooting strobes. a9II got a major upgrade in the mechanical shutter so it's the same as the a7rIV now - 10 fps with full AF tracking. lag time on the mechanical shutter is a thing of the past - this suction cup fires just when you want it, and just in time for basketball season! 4. Real-time tracking is better - more accurate than even what the a9 gave us, and more mature and stable. You can literally kick a person in the arm or leg and the a9II will find the face and eyes and flip so every frame is glued to the eyeballs, even if it's an athlete in action. 5. Increased resolution in the EVF but with the same speed/refresh rate as the a9. I find more eye relief because the image quality is so good now. 6. 1/200th sync speed is 100% solid. In the past, some of the FF bodies have fluctuated in how clean they synchronized normal 1/200th studio flashes. Often you had to go down to 1/160th to make sure the top part of the frame was really clean. This really affected me for strobe hockey where you would have "dirty ice" on top of the frame. The a9II, although it still doesn't have 1/250th sync like any professional camera, you can at least rely on 1/200th. I tested with Dynalite, Orlit, Profoto and Elinchrom using a handheld to sync and 1/200th is safe. 7. Most important to me is the extra processing power of the a9II. I look forward to the new features that Sony will certainly add in the near future - this adds to the value of the camera in the long run. I so appreciate Sony making these FW updates free and allowing me to do them myself with a laptop!!!! Lastly, I still love the a9 but will be using my a9II as the main body. I am a Sony sponsored shooter but these words are mine. a9II is a great gift for photographers who choose to use the best... -Patrick Murphy-Racey/Sony Artisan of Imagery
